The Multiplier Mindset

The profession of software engineering is undergoing a rapid change. The art of writing code looks a lot differnt now in 2026 than it did in 2006 when I became a professional software engineer. It will no doubt look very different in 2046.

For me, the profession is not so much about what to build or how to build things, but it’s more about how do I make my team more effective? How can I build the right things for the customer? This requires a slightly different mindset. This can be difficult for people who are set in their ways.

This new book by Gregor Ojstersek provides a guide on how to do exactly that. Gregor runs a newsletter on engineering leadership and has a ton resources on his page, like this repo of resources on becoming a great engineering leader. I am just starting to read it thanks to O’Reilly’s Early Access and to the Seattle Public Library for giving library card holders access.

Will post a review/summary when I am done, I promise.
